Project to Strengthen Cooperatives in Accounting and Financial Statement Preparation

The project aims to enhance the capabilities of cooperatives in accounting and financial statement preparation. It includes two courses:

Basic Accounting for Cooperatives

This course is designed for cooperatives with basic accounting skills who can prepare documents for recording and prepare basic accounts.

Principle and Rational

       According to the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for the project aimed at strengthening cooperatives in accounting and financial statement preparation, there are seven entities are involved, comprising of the Cooperative Auditing Department, the Cooperative Promotion Department, the Credit Union League of Thailand Ltd., The Federation of Saving and Credit Cooperative of Thailand Limited, The Co-operative Federation of Thailand, Ltd., The Bus Service Cooperative Federation of Thailand Ltd., and The Community Organizations Development. The purpose of the collaboration is to enhance the capacity of cooperatives in preparing their accounting records and financial statements.

     The project uses cooperative office spaces as training centers and involves cooperative leagues as the main body in the process of developing cooperative accountants. The Community Organization Development Institute, which is responsible for the secure housing project in collaboration with the cooperative development network, plays a key role in developing accountants for secure housing cooperatives. The Cooperative Promotion Department supports the personnel by providing accountants for cooperatives and offers training in cooperative operations. Meanwhile, the Cooperative Auditing Department supports by providing training and knowledge on accounting and financial statements, as well as gathering data on accounting situations and capabilities of cooperatives to achieve the goal of “cooperatives can prepare accounts and financial statements.”

Objectives for the training participants:

    1. To gain knowledge and understanding of the laws related to the operation of cooperatives.
    2. To gain knowledge and understanding of regulations and guidelines regarding the financial and accounting practices of cooperatives.
    3. To understand the preparation of supporting documents for accounting entries.
    4. To understand how to record transactions in account books and prepare chart of accounts.
    5. To gain knowledge and understanding of the methods for recording cooperative accounting.
    6. To have the opportunity to exchange knowledge and opinions with peers, as well as to ask questions and receive advice from instructors to guide proper practices.
    7. To perform accounting duties for cooperatives effectively.

Eligibility for Participants:

    1. Accounting staff of cooperatives or those assigned the responsibility of maintaining cooperative accounts.
    2. Cooperatives that are currently unable to maintain accounts.
    3. Able to attend the entire training course.

 

 

Advanced Cooperative Accounting Course

This course is designed for cooperatives that are able to prepare trial balances and handle advanced accounting tasks.

Objectives.

                    To provide the participants with knowledge and understanding of the laws related to cooperative operations; understanding of regulations and guidelines on cooperative financial and accounting practices; Knowledge on preparing trial balances, understanding of how to make accounting adjustments; knowledge of annual account closure procedures, understanding of how to prepare financial statements; opportunities to exchange knowledge and opinions with others; there is the chance to ask questions and receive advice from instructors to guide appropriate practices and the ability to perform effectively in their accounting roles within cooperatives.

Eligibility for Participants:

    • Accounting staff of cooperatives.
    • Able to attend the entire course.
